Pinwheels for Peace is an are installation project started by two are teachers, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, of Coconut Creek, Florida, as a way for students to express their feelings about what's going on in their lives and in the world. In the first year, 2005. groups in over 1325 locations throughout the world and 500.000 were spinning pinwheels.In 2007, In 2007, over1.2 million pinwheels were spinning in over 2,500 locations.
This project is non-political --Peace doesn't necessarily have to be associated with the conflict of war. It can be related to violence/intolerance in out daily lives.
The International Day of Peace was declared by the United Nations Assembly, in 1992, that on the 21 Day of September, to devote a specific time to concentrate the efforts of the United Nations and its member states, as will as the whole of mankind, to promoting the ideals of Peace and to giving positive evidence of their commitment to Peace in all viable ways. This day should be devoted to commemorating and strengthing the ideals of Peace both within and among all nations and peoples.
